Quick resources for leaving tips

There is no such thing as a bad tip. Any information can help us keep communities safe. When submitting a tip, tell us everything you know, and we’ll take it from there.
If you don’t know where to start, think of the who, where, when, and what to share your tip:
Who was involved? This can be a description, name or nickname, address or other identifying features.
Where did you see or hear this? Any information about location, like city, address or even neighbourhood or general area might be helpful.
When did this happen? If possible, share the place and time the incident happened.
What are you sharing? Any details about what happened or what you heard.

When you submit a tip via our third-party partners, your personal information is protected from start to finish. Our third-party partners review tips and pay attention to anything that could identify you, removing details before it’s passed along to law enforcement. Your tip is assigned a unique ID, which means you can follow up if you want, on your own terms.
When you submit a tip via phone: This phone number is the same for any Crime Stoppers program across Canada and is directed to a Crime Stoppers Call Center. Your call will be answered by one of our trained tip takers who will not ask you for your name, address, or any other identifying information. They do not have call display and will never be able to trace the call back to you.
When you submit a tip online via the P3 Tips Portal: You will be taken to our third-party partner, P3 Tips’, website and prompted to fill out an anonymous form with your tip. The P3 platform allows community members like you to share information safely and anonymously with Alberta Crime Stoppers. The website also provides you with a direct way to update or follow up on your submitted tip, right from your phone.
When you submit a tip via the P3 Tips App: Once you download the app from the Apple or Android App Store, you can use it to submit a tip via the form within the app. The P3 platform allows community members like you to share information safely and anonymously with Alberta Crime Stoppers. The app also provides you with a direct way to update or follow up on your submitted tip, right from your phone.
When you use any of these methods, you will be given a unique tipster number. This number should be kept secret and recorded as it is given. This is the only way you will be able to follow up on your tip to either add additional information or check to see if there was a reward. There are no exceptions to this.

When you share information with Alberta Crime Stoppers, your anonymity is protected at every step, no matter how you choose to reach out.
By phone: You speak to a real person. No caller ID. No recorded number. No call trace. You share what you know, we listen, and your identity stays completely private.
Online or by app: No IP address is collected. No account is required. Once you submit, our third-party partners review your tip and remove any details that could unintentionally identify you before it goes anywhere.
However you reach us, you will receive a tip ID: a reference number that lets you follow up on your own terms. We will never contact you first.
We do everything we can to protect your anonymity because we know that by disclosing important information about a crime, having your identity revealed might put you at risk. The only time your anonymity may be open to challenge is in the following situations:
A call to Crime Stoppers made with the intention of “furthering criminal activity or interfering with the administration of justice”. A party who is guilty of a crime cannot use Crime Stoppers to try to divert the blame onto someone else. Crime Stoppers cannot be used to try to “frame” an innocent person.
There is evidence that disclosure of some or all of a tip is necessary to establish someone’s innocence.
A tipster having received the benefit of full legal advice may, for his or her own reasons, elect to waive the privilege.
A full and more detailed explanation of these principles can be found on the Canadian Crime Stoppers website.

We will never ask for your name, we do not trace phone numbers or tips submitted online, you will not have to make a statement to police, and you will not have to appear in Court.
